FOUR-WAY TEST
ESSAY CONTEST

 

 

 

 

 

 

THE FOUR-WAY TEST  "Of the things we think, say or do:

 

Is it the Truth?

 

2. Is it Fair to all concerned?

 

3. Will it build goodwill and better friendships?

 

4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned?“

 

GENERAL RULES

 

 

  • Contestants must be students in grade 7 or 8 within District 7610.

 

  • Each contestant may submit only one entry.

 

  • The length of the essay must be between 500-1500 words.

 

  • Entries must be typed, double spaced, and submitted on oth disk (*.doc extension) and hardcopy.

 

  • All four of the Four-Way Test questions must be addressed in the essay entry.

 

  • Each winning Club entry must include a cover page signed by the sponsoring Rotary Club President forsubmission to 2nd Tier to be scored by different judges.

 

  • Envelope containing the Club’s winning entry must be postmarked on or before entry deadline:  February 14, 2009.

 

 

JUDGING CRITERIA

 

FIRST TIER

 

?Entries will be judged and scored by each participating Rotary Club.  Each participating Club should have a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winner to be honored at a club meeting.

 

?Winners should be awarded cash prizes (determined by the sponsoring Club) and plaques or certificates with family members and school faculty present at award ceremony. 

 

SECOND TIER

 

? Rotary Clubs should submit only their best essay to the  District Essay Contest Chair for “SECOND TIER” to be judged and scored by different judges

with $100 entry fee.

 

? Deadline is February 15, 2008.  All entries must be postmarked on/or before this date.

 

? The district winners will be honored with cash prizes and plaques at the District Conference in April 2008.

2nd Prize = $500

3rd Prize = $250

 

SCORING CRITERIA

Adequate treatment of

ALL Four-Way Test questions:

 

?maximum of 10 points.

 

Understanding of the concept: 

?maximum of 10 points.

 

Sincerity and originality: 

?maximum of 10 points.

 

Quality of writing:

 ?maximum of 10 points

 

 

Maximum Score = 40
